Marcus Rashford scores brace as Manchester United schooled Norwich City

4 Min Read

Marcus Rashford scored two goals on his 200th game for the club when Manchester United demolished Norwich City by 4-0.

Rashford is the third youngest player to have reached such a feat in a Red Devils shirt.

United started the game lively and got out of the blocks when Rashford planted to the back of the net a deep cross behind the Norwich defence. 1-0 it ended for the first half at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

Seven minutes after the restart, United doubled their lead with Rashford converting from penalty spot after Brandon Williams was axed down in the penalty box by Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul.

Anthony Martial put his header away after a delightful cross from Juan Mata for the Spaniard’s second assist of the evening.

Greenwood came off the bench and scored to make it 4-0 after fullback William failed to score in front of an open goal from 2 yards out.

United climb back to fifth on the log five points behind Chelsea.

It was Manchester United’s first victory in 4 games after 3 back-to-back defeats at Arsenal, against Wolves and against rivals Manchester City.

“Beyond proud to become the third youngest player to hit 200 Man Utd games,” Rashford wrote on his official Twitter account.

“Can’t put into words what it means to follow Giggsy and George Best. Giggsy was massive in getting my first opportunity so extra special for me. Grateful to everyone who’s helped me get to where I am.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased to finally rally his team back to winning ways again;

“Very happy. We started on the front foot. When you can walk off, and I am sure the opposition are talking about Manchester United as a very hard working team, that is what I want from my team.

“In any Premier League game you have to take advantage of the pressure and domination you get. Second half was very good.

“We reacted today, we can bounce back and we are taking more than two or three steps forward before one back, because behind the scenes we know we are doing good work.”

Norwich manager Daniel Farke believes the loss is not “season defining”;

“When you are 3-0 down against probably the best counter-attacking side in the league, it is then difficult to win the game so today we have to accept the better side won.

“We gave the first goal away, sloppy in our defending, but you are still in the game. We had a good spell before half-time with Todd Cantwell and a great save by the goalkeeper.

“I was pleased with the reaction at 4-0. We had to stick together in the last 20 minutes. We are disappointed but we also know a game at Old Trafford is not a season-defining game for us.

“We are definitely in the worst position (in the league) but we are competitive. This is what can happen at this level. We are realistic.”

Despite winning the game, United fans are still disgruntled by the way the club is being managed and demanded for the removal of Glazer.

The much of the game there chants of “we want Glazer out” also expressing their dissatisfaction executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who was sitting in his seat up behind the dugout and the man who deals with transfer negotiations.

Mata Manchester Norwich

Juan Mata was the man of the match having bossed the midfield for Manchester United on the evening.
