Two-time London Marathon Winner Wilson Kipsang suspended by anti-doping unit

1 Min Read

Two-time London Marathon winner Wilson Kipsang has been charged for ‘whereabout failures’ and for ‘tampering’ by the Athletics Integrity Unit.

The 37-year-old Kenyan has been temporarily suspended until his hearing.

Kipsang is a thing of a legend in Marathon circles having won bronze in the London 2012 event, he also clinched titles in Berlin, New York and Tokyo.

He is the sixth-fastest Marathoner in history with a personal best time of 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 13 seconds.

According to the Athletic code, Athletes have to inform the AIU of their whereabouts in an hour window every day. Kipsang failed to report his whereabouts three times in 12 months. Absenteeism and filing inaccurate information leads to one count which results in an automatic ban.

On its website, the Athletics Integrity Unit says it “will be taking a more stringent approach to whereabouts requirements in 2020”.
