Billionaire media personality, Oprah Winfrey has denied reports she advised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to quit their roles as senior members of the British Royal Family.
The Duke, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle made the shocking announcement on Tuesday.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.
“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment,” the couple said.
A report by Page Six said Oprah, 65, was the first friend the royals spoke to after the announcement.
“Oprah was the first person to talk to Harry and Meghan about breaking free and doing their own thing, building on their own brand. She made them realise it was really possible,” the report quoted an unnamed source as saying.
But Oprah, who was at the couple’s Royal Wedding in May 2018, denied the claim.
In a short statement quoted by People, the American media mogul said Prince Harry, 35, and Megan Markle, 38, do not need her help making up their minds.
She said, “Meghan and Harry do not need my help figuring out what’s best for them.
“I care about them both and support whatever decisions they make for their family.”
