Oscars Set To Run Without Host Again In 2020 Awards Ceremony

2 Min Read

According to reports, This year’s Oscars Ceremony will also hold without a Host.

Karey Burke, who is the President of ABC Entertainment made the announcement on Wednesday during an interview with the press at  the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena.

Karey also noted that ABC will again broadcast the ceremony as part of its long-term agreement with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.

Karey said: “Let me confirm it now, together with the Academy, that there will be no traditional host this year,”

The 2019 Oscar show was the first to be staged without a host since 1989, after comedian and actor Kevin Hart pulled out of hosting when controversial past tweets by him resurfaced on the internet.

Following the scandal, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which controls the Oscar show, decided to go ahead without a host and  the TV ratings for that year increased  after a long decline.

During an interview with Hollywood Reporter last year after the 2019 Oscars ceremony, Karey said: “We are extremely happy with how the show went. Odds are you’ll see us repeating what we consider to be a successful formula.”

The Primetime Emmys show followed suit and went without a host last September, however, The 2020 Golden Globes was hosted by Emcee Ricky Gervais for the fifth time while Alicia Keys is set to return to host the 2020 Grammy’s.
