Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, has raised an alarm over the high level of unemployable youths in the country.

Ngige who spoke at the 2019 National Migration Dialogue at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday December 17, disclosed that they have established linkages with the Ministry of Education, Industry, Trade and Investment, Youth and Sports, and Agriculture to address the issue.

He said: “Nigeria is over 200 million and about 60 per cent are youths who need employment. Unfortunately, only 10 per cent have decent jobs.

“Many are unemployable while others are not employed. We are working that they get job so that they can have a roof over their heads, feed and enjoy life. We have established linkages with the Ministry of Education, Industry, Trade and Investment, Youth and Sports, and Agriculture. We want to look at our curriculum so that our people can have skills that can be exported.”

Meanwhile, The Herald gathered that the expectations of Nigeria’s workers have been met as the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, said that the payment of the new minimum wage will be effected.

Nigige made this known after federal government and organized labour reached agreement on the consequential adjustment of  the workers’ salaries. Ngige on Friday, October 18, insisted that the payment will be effected immediately.

On the breakdown on the pay adjustment for different categories of civil servants, the minister said: “For COMESS wage structure grade level 7 gets 23%, level 8 gets 20%, level 9 gets 19%, levels 10 to 14 get 16% while levels 15 to 17 get 14%. For those on the second category of wages structure, CONHES, CONRRISE, CONTISS etc, level 7 gets 22.2%, levels 8 to 14 get 16%, levels 15 to 17 get 10.5%.”
