Ebonyi lawmaker Promise to tackle Infrastructure Deficit

3 Min Read

Mrs Lilian Eziuloh, representing Afikpo North-East State Constituency in the Ebonyi House of Assembly, has promised to tackle infrastructure deficit in her constituency through robust representation.

The legislator gave the assurance on Sunday at Mgbom in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi during a town hall meeting on service delivery in the area.

Eziuloh said that her priority was finding solutions to infrastructure challenges confronting the people in order to enhance their wellbeing.

She said that democracy thrived when people were given the opportunity to engage political leaders in dialogue and participate in determining how they are governed.

Ezillo, who responded to constituents’ demands including the absence of electricity supply, construction of rural roads, insecurity, herdsmen/farmers clashes, promised to liaise with relevant government authorities to address the challenges.

The lawmaker, who described electricity as critical to social and economic development, said that she has embarked on measures to restore power supply to her constituency and other affected areas in the council.

“I have visited the various areas we have electricity transformers across the entire local government area and we have profiled about 16 transformers that are faulty.

“I have met with the relevant officials at the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for possible repairs or replacement of the faulty transformers.

“We are also consulting with the Ebonyi Ministry of Power in this regard; we are assuring you that we will spare no effort in ensuring that electricity supply is restored in all the parts of the council soonest.

“We are not relenting in the area of internal security because we are liaising with the local government and the ministry of Border Peace and Internal Security to ensure that our people are adequately secured.

“Security of lives and property is the essence of government and we will not relent as a responsible government in carrying out this mandate of securing lives and property of our citizens.

“I shall ensure that everything is done including initiating legislation to address the issue of herders and farmers clashes in all parts of the state, and I assure you of the state government’s commitment to achieving this,” Eziuloh said.

The lawmaker urged community leaders to guard against vandalism of government installations in their areas and also promised to attract more projects including empowerment opportunities and rural roads construction.

The town hall meeting was supported by the International Republican Institute, a Non-Governmental Organization, committed to deepening democratic governance in Nigeria.

The meeting was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, women organisations, community leaders, youths representatives and party chieftains.
