A Catholic priest identified as Innocent Enweh has been seen saying the opening prayer at the international witchcraft conference organised by Professor B.IC Ijomah Centre for Policy and Research, of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The conference which was largely criticized nation wide, particularly amongst the Christians and some religious bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, held inspite of criticisms.
According to theCable reports, the conference kicked off with reading of Bible passages alongside the prayers offered by the priest, followed by a choir ministration in hymns by the choir of Christ Church chapel, a church located in the university.

TheCable gathered that the theme of the conference which was changed from “Witchcraft: Meaning, factors and practices” to “Dimensions of Human Behaviour”, following a directive from Charles Igwe, the university vice-chancellor (VC), retained its sub-theme and was centred on witchcraft.
The vice-chancellor also failed to attend the conference neither was any representatives sent despite been scheduled to speak at the programme.
Recall that the Herald reported that the University’s director of B.I.C. Ijomah Centre for Policy Studies, Egodi Uchendu, said that witchcraft is only “the topic of the academic engagement” and meant to feature academics who will do journal reviews on information gathered over the years on witchcraft.
“Church pastors discuss witchcraft regularly and preach against it all the time, drawing from their experiences during their training and in their ministries,” he said.
“I am sure the information from this conference and the research findings would assist them in their work for the gospel.
