PDP Ignores Justice Oyekan-Abdullahi , Conducts Fresh Election

2 Min Read

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has disregarded a ruling by Justice T.A.O Oyekan-Abdullahi, which restricted it from conducting fresh elections of new members of the State Working Committee (SWC).

According to Daily Trust, a news publication firm in Nigeria, the order was sequel to a suit filed against the People’s Democratic Party, it chairman, Senator Ben Obi and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Representatives of the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP held the election at an Hotel in Lagos yesterday and was chaired by Senator Obi.

According to him, Deji Doherty, former Governorship candidate of the party, emerged as chairman with 27 votes out of the 45 delegates that voted in the election, although there were 68 delegates approved by NWC.

Doherty described the election of new executive as a new beginning and new chapter in the history of Lagos PDP.

However, Dr. Adegbola Dominic, the party chairman loyal to Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, explained to newsmen that PDP flaunting court order amounted to contempt of court.

He said;

“One is just surprised that some people who are expected to know better attended that show of shame,” he said.
