20 People Feared Dead As Truck Crashes Into Several Tricycles While Being Chased By Police

An accident happened in Adamawa State, Yola in which 20 people are feared dead. A trailer packed with Farm produce reportedly crushes several tricycles at Vinikling bridge (Hayin Gada). It was gathered that the accident was caused by some police officers who were requesting for bribe from the truck driver. In a bid to avoid paying the bribe, the truck driver lost control and began crushing all the tricycles popularly known as “keke” in its path.

The victims of the crash who were crushed to death by the trailer being chased by the police officers have been moved to a nearby hospital in Yola. Some reports gotten by the locals in the community of where the accident happened was that the Police officers told them that they were chasing the truck for carrying good suspected to be contraband in the country such as Foreign rice.

A resident of the community with the name Umar Shehu narrates,”but there was no foreign rice in the truck, it was farm produce. The driver said they were chasing him for refusing to give them money at the checkpoint mounted by the police”.

A student of Modibo Adama University, Salisu Ibrahim also recounted how he escaped getting crushed by the truck which the police were chasing for not giving them the bribe the requested for.

“I did not know what happened, but we suddenly saw the truck coming with speed and police van was pursuing it. All of us in our Keke Napep jumped out and fled, the driver lost control and the truck began to hit other Keke Napep and crushing people before our very own eyes. It was horrific,” Ibrahim said.

Residents of the community have complained that the activities of the Police men mounted at the border have become somewhat illegal, acting like they have no regulations.
