All 65 Governorship Candidates who will be participating in the up coming elections in Bayelsa and Kogi State have signed a peace Accord.
Bayelsa and Kogi “are not easy states” when it comes to conducting governorship elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said.
The INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said this in a meeting with the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The peace accord was signed by twenty-three candidates in Kogi State, while forty-two candidates signed in Bayelsa State making a total of sixty-five governorship candidates.
The Peace accord was organised by the International Republican Institute (IRI), Search for Common Ground, DFID and Kukah Centre.
The point of the Peace accord was to ensure a smooth election process. The peace accord was signed in the presence of the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu and the inspector general of Police , Mohammed Adamu.
Mahmood who spoke on the peace pact said assured the people of the two states of INEC’s readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and conclusive poll in the states.

The INEC chairman said the electoral commission has already ensured that all non-sensitive materials have been delivered to their office in Yenagoa.
Mahmood also called on all candidates for the election to ensure that supporters and party members conform to the rules and regulations of engagement at the polls.
