A Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed November 5 to hear a suit by a musician, Olumuyiwa Danladi a.k.a Danny Young, against hip hop star Tiwatope (Tiwa) Savage, for alleged copyright infringement.

The lawsuit, which is titled “FHC/L/CS/230/2019’ is pending before Justice Mohammed Liman.

Mavin has also been included in the lawsuit, as it was the previous label which Tiwa Savage was signed to during the alleged infringement of rights.

Danny Young filed the law suit through his lawyer, Mr Justin Ige, of creative Legal, demanding N200m for damages against Tiwa Savage and Mavin records for copyright violation.

Danny young filled the suit since February 13 and the hearing for the case has been set for November 5.

Danny Young spoke to a correspondent with Punch news, Danny said:I wish that Nigerians would stop treating this issue of copyright violation with levity.  A lot of people don’t understand how this thing works. They don’t even know the value of their copyright. It is no fault of theirs, though. It is because many artistes have been infringing other people’s copyright. Now everybody thinks it is a normal thing to do in Nigeria.  Some people even think it is wrong to complain.”
