Adamawa govt. to chase out quack medical practitioners from its Health sector

2 Min Read

The Adamawa State Government is to collaborate with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to flush out quack medical practitioners from its health sector.

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa announced this when he received members of MDCN at Dougirei Government House on Tuesday in Yola.

Fintiri said that in line with the government efforts to checkmate the activities of fake medical practitioners, a parcel of land would be allocated to the MDCN to build its office in the state.

“I will direct the state Ministry of Land, Survey and Housing to allocate a piece of land and office accommodation for the North-East Zonal Office of the Medical Council.

“My administration recently arrested a quack ophthalmologist and a medical doctor who operated with NABTEB certificate and killed more than 60 patients in the state,” he said.

Fintiri noted that establishment of the zonal office in Yola would assist in regulating the activities of medical practitioners in the state and the North-East region.

He described the visit by MDCN as timely and congratulated Prof. Abba Hassan for emerging as the national chairman of the council.

Speaking earlier, Hassan said the council was established in the early sixties as a department in the Federal Ministry of Health and became an independent body in 1963.

The chairman added that the council had zonal offices in Lagos, Enugu, Ilorin, Kaduna and Port Harcourt and it planned to establish North East Zonal office in Yola to stimulate activities of MDCN in the zone.

He said that establishment of Yola zonal office was timely as the council had many registered medical and dental practitioners and training institutions in the zone. (NAN)
