House of Assembly to issue Warrant of Arrest on Ambode

Madushiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, have said that warrant of arrest will be issued on the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode alongside four ex-commissioners.

The Speaker said this during a plenary session on Thurdays, following the preliminary reports presented by two committees set up to investigate the 820 bus purchase made by the Ambode administration.

Madushiru instructed the clerk of the house to invite the formal governor and the government officials involved in the project.

According to him, their refusal will amount to a publication being made on newspapers and a warrant of arrest after.

Fatai Mojeed, chairman of the committee set up to investigate the buses purchased by the former governor, while presenting it’s report at the plenary session, disclosed that Ambode had not followed due process while purchasing the buses, by using the refund if the Paris Club for the purchase without the approval of the House of Assembly.

Mojeed said;

“He did not inform the House before commencing the purchase of the buses. Over N48 billion was spent for the purchase of the busses and N22 Billion were spent on import duties. 520 of the buses are still at the seaport,” Mojeed said.

He also added that no payment voucher was made available to the committee neither was there any budgetary provision.

“They could not produce any newspaper where the purchase of the buses were advertised. The committee invited 20 stakeholders, 16 of them complied, while four of them refused against the constitutional provision,” he added.

Members of the house reacted to the report of the committee and some suggested that the warrant of arrest should be issued immediately, however the member representing Badagry Constituency 1 adviced that caution should be taken.

He suggested that that invitation should be made on newspaper adverts.

Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the house, the concluded that clerk should first invite them, but in the event that they refuse, newspaper advert should be made followed by the warrant of arrests

He said;

“because when this house invite people and they refused to show up, it’s like setting a bad precedence for others coming behind.

“The clerk should write them including the ex-governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and if they refused, we will do newspaper publications and after that we will issue a warrant of arrest.”
