President Muhammadu Buhari is on a three-day official visit to South Africa to address the recent xenophobic killings amongst other things that concern both nations. The President departed Nigeria through the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe airport on Wednesday, 2nd October, 2019.
According to Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Media , the visit was for the purpose of enhancing relations between both countries as well as discussing the welfare of Nigerians in South Africa.
Garba Shehu also mentioned that President Buhari would be holding a special town hall meeting with Nigerians in South Africa in a bid to reassure them, that the government is still very much committed to protecting their lives and safeguarding their properties in spite of the xenophobic scare.
Buhari in his Media Briefing on Thursday, called for tolerance, vigilance and heightened security in order to ensure the safety of all citizens .

While addressing newsmen in Pretoria, the Nigerian Leader stated that the competition harbingered by globalization, which is progressing with the ease in migration, can only get intense for businesses.
Comparing the situation of Nigerians in South Africa to Ghana, President Buhari noted that competitions at low level of the economy would breed even more intense competition which grows with an explosive population.
At the end of his remarks, President Buhari urged Nigerians with these words “As it is said , when in Rome, behave like Romans..be law abiding”
