Van Dijk names Roberto Firmino as greatest teammate at Liverpool

2 Min Read

Virgil Van Dijk has named Roberto Firmino as the greatest player he has played alongside in Liverpool, leaving out Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Firmino is extremely well-regarded by his manager, teammates and Liverpool fans for his sheer work-rate and selfless style of play which frees up space for his colleagues.

Firmino, 27, didn’t score as Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1 but he delivered another excellent display and before the game, Van Dijk hailed his qualities.

Speaking to talkSPORT on the best player he has played with is, Van Dijk said: ‘I’m going to be a little bit biased and say one of my team-mates; I would say Roberto Firmino.’

Firmino was regarded as a No.10 when he joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2015 but he has been re-modelled as a False 9 in Klopp’s tried-and-tested 4-3-3 system.

He has netted 67 times for Liverpool in 197 matches in all competitions. Of his four appearances this season, he has scored once.

Liverpool maintained their 100% start to the Premier League campaign by beating Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday with Joel Matip and Salah (2) scoring before Lucas Torreira netted a late consolation.
