Simon Achuba and Yahaya Bello in Kogi

The Kogi House of Assembly has asked the state Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, to raise a seven-man panel of inquiry to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the state Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba.

The request came after the resolution of the House to proceed to the second stage of Achuba’s impeachment.

Moving the motion to adopt the resolution, the Majority Leader, Abdullahi Bello-Balogun (APC-Ajaokuta), said the motion was a sequel to the issuance of a “Notice of Allegations to the Deputy Governor two weeks ago (August 8, 2019).”

He explained that the deputy governor evaded the service of the notice on him and also directed that none of his aides should receive any correspondence from the House of Assembly on his behalf.

Sending the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Mohammed (APC-Ankpa) the motion was appropriate.

In his ruling, the Kogi assembly Speaker, Matthew Kolawole, said members who supported the adoption of the motion were 19 and more than the required of 17 members

Kolawole further directed the House to communicate the Chief Judge to within seven days constitute a panel within to investigate Achuba.

Achuba has been having running battles with Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello over unpaid entitlements and alleged insubordination.
