1 Min Read

The police in South-West has launched an inter-state operation to tackle cross-border criminals and check herdsmen killings in the regions, Herald Nigeria can report.

Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Mr Asuquo Amba, disclosde this at a media briefing in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday.

Amba said, “The state commands and the inter-state arrangements would tackle the heinous crimes under focus in the region.”

According to the police commissioner, the arrangement would be used to tackle armed robbery and kidnapping, among others.

Amba, who noted that tough times awaited criminals in South-West states, said the command was now collaborating with Oodua People’s Congress and hunters, in view of their nearness to the people at the grass roots, to prevent crimes.

The police boss said, “When we were on the trail of some criminals at Iyemero Ekiti, many of the hunters and the OPC men went into the forest with us and I was amazed at the results we got.”

Amba explained that the collaboration was necessary because such local security organisations were useful agents in knowing the hideouts of criminals.
