Justice Darius Khobo of a Kaduna High Court has granted detained leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, leave to travel to India for medical attention.
The judge however ruled that the couple should be accompanied on the trip by officials of the Kaduna state government and personnel of the Department of State Security (DSS).
The ruling followed a bail application filed by El-Zakzaky’s lawyer, Femi Falana SAN.
El-Zakzaky was arrested alongside his wife in December 2015 following a clash between Nigerian Army personnel and members of the IMN popularly called Shiites.
The police had heightened security in Kaduna metropolis ahead of the bail application ruling.
However, El-Zakzaky and his wife were absent in court.
