“Do we have credible leaders in Nigeria?” – Bishop who conducted Olakunrin’s burial queries

Bishop Simeon Borokini

The Bishop of the Akure Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt. Rev. Simeon Borokini, has some words for political leaders in Nigeria and they are not pleasant.

At the funeral service for slain Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Bishop Borokini suggested that failure of leadership contributed to the death of the 58-year-old.

The funeral service held at the St. David’s Cathedral Anglican Church, Akure on Monday.

According to the cleric, it is the duty of government manned by political leaders to provide security for Nigerians.

However, he said the government is failing in this primary assignment.

In his funeral sermon, Bishop Borokini said, “Do we have credible leaders in Nigeria? It is very unfortunate. Millions of people in the land are wounded and needed healing. It is when the governments do the needful that we can be healed,” said the bishop.

“The government should do more for the security of the people. You take a risk in your house and you take a bigger risk when you take a step outside your house.

“Nobody is happy and nobody is safe in this country, our leader should do something on the issue of insecurity.”

Olakunrin was shot dead at Kajola village, on the Ore-Shagamu Expressway in Ondo State on Friday, July 12, a week after attending her granddaughter’s first birthday ceremony in the United States.

While the police say she was killed by armed robbers, Afenifere insists “suspected herdsmen” murdered her.
