American couple, 94-year-old Herbert L. DeLaigle and 88-year-old his wife, Marilyn Frances Kilpatrick loved up for 71 years, and couldn’t stay apart when death knocks.

The duo died on the same day on Friday, exactly 12 hours apart. While Herbert passed at 2:20 a.m., his wife followed him to heaven at 2:20 p.m.

In an interview with WRDW/WAGT during their 70th wedding anniversary, Herbert said he spotted Marilyn at a cafe where she was working and asked her out, only to get married just a year later.

The couple spent six years in Germany while Herbert DeLaigle was serving in the military. He served 22 years in the US army, fighting in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, according to his obituary.

On her part, Marilyn DeLaigle was a Cub Scout leader and owned and operated Marilyn’s Nursery in the 80s.

The couple is survived by son Herbert J. Delaigle and his wife JoAnn, Renee D. Rowell, Donald L. DeLaigle and his wife Patti, Edwin P. DeLaigle and his wife Teresa, Helen Iris DeLaigle and James M. DeLaigle and his wife Connie, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Marilyn DeLaigle is also survived by her brother, Glen F. Kilpatrick.

The family said in a statement, “It’s amazing how they were together for 71 years and now they are together in heaven. What an amazing love story that is,” WRDW/WAGT reported.
