La Liga champions, Barcelona have signed French forward Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

The club announced in a statement on its website on Friday that it has paid the 120 million euro buyout clause to release the 28-year-old player from Atletico.

According to the statement, the 2018 World Cup winner will sign a contract with Barcelona for the next five seasons, through to 30 June 2024, with a buyout clause of 800 million euros.

Considered one of the best players in the world, Griezmann brings to the Nou Camp years of experience acquired in Spanish football with Atletico, which he joined for then club-record 30 million euros, and Real Sociedad.

Griezmann scored 133 goals in 256 appearances for Atletico Madrid.

He was an integral part of the Atletico team that won the La Liga in 2015.

The striker was part of the squad that were runners-up in the Champions League in 2016, a year in which he also finished amongst the top three in the battle for the Ballon d’Or.

Griezmann was the star of the French team that played in the final of the 2016 European Championship, where he won the Golden Boot as top scorer with six goals.

He was also instrumental to Les Blues winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia, emerging as the Most Valuable Player of the final against Croatia.
