A foremost constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN), is leading Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s election petition at the presidential election tribunal.
The 87-year-old appeared as Atiku’s lead counsel at the tribunal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate started calling his witnesses.
He replaces Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), who was the lead counsel.
At the sitting, Nwabueze orally applied to be seated while addressing the court and the request was granted.
The senior lawyer later said he attended the proceedings despite his age to demonstrate the case’s importance.
Taking to Twitter, the Vice Presidential candidate of PDP, Peter Obi hailed Nwabueze for leading the team, describing the octogenarian as a “patriot” and his appearance as “reassuring”.
