Freestyle Footballers display rare skills at Lagos Regional Championships

Freestyle footballers have displayed rare skills at the 2019 Freestyle Lagos Regional Championships in Lagos, signalling to other contestants for September continental competition that they are ready.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos Regional Freestyle Football Championships to shortlist contestants for the African Freestyle Championships to be held from Sept. 13 to Sept. 15 in Lagos.

The championships oragnised by Feet `n Tricks and hosted on Saturday at the Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos had in attendance 42 freestyle footballers.

The footballers in readiness for the African Challenge, however, displayed rare skills sending signals to other challengers across Nigeria and Africa.

The Chief Executive Officers, Feet `n Tricks, Valentine Ozigbo, said that the significance of the championships was to showcase the immense talents deposited in Nigeria and also providing employment for the teeming youths.

“We are gathered to give our youths life, earnings and future. This competition since its inception in 2017 has been able to engage our youths and discovering the immense talents deposited in them.

“Freestyle Football is described by the World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA) as “an art and sport of juggling a football using all parts of the body to entertain audiences.

“We are excited to have started the drive to pave a new direction for freestyle football in Africa.

“Our aim as an organisation is to make freestyle household name in Nigeria and beyond and to encourage more participation of the youths in the sports until we have champions that will rule Africa in Nigeria.

“The shortlisted contestants from the four regions, Lagos. Abuja, Owerri and Warri will compete at the African Championships schedule to hold between Sept. 14 and Sept. 15 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos,” he said.

NAN reports that 12 contestants emerged from the regional contest. They will join other 20 contestants to represent Nigeria at the African Freestyle Football Championships later in the year. (NAN)
