Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has said that newly-appointed Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari is not a relative of Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.
The ex-minister disclosed this in a tweet on Thursday, shortly after news of Mele Kyari’s appointment was announced.
Some commentators had taken to social media to accuse the President’s Chief of Staff of nepotism, believing that the new NNPC GMD is his relative.
However, Fani-Kayode said that he had known Abba Kyari for 40 years and could confirm that Mele is not his relative.
The Herald can report that Abba Kyari worked for the law firm Fani-Kayode and Sowemimo , started by Fani-Kayode’s father, for several years.

We must be factual in our criticism otherwise it erodes our credibility. It is NOT true to say that Mele Kyari, the new GMB of NNPC, is a relative of Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to @MBuhari. I have know Abba for 40 yrs and I assure you that Mele is not a member of his family.
