Michel Platini, former UEFA president, is currently being held and questioned for his involvement in supporting Qatar as the host for the 2021 FIFA World Cup.
Platini, who assumed the role of the European Football governing body in 2007, had to be relieved from the seat in 2015 after FIFA Ethics committee found out he had shady dealings.
Now, he has been apprehended by French Police following an investigation into the arrival of Qatar as the hosting nation for the next world soccer tournament.
According to Mediapart, a French newspaper, Platini was escorted into the Anti-Corruption Office of the Judicial Police (OCLCIFF).
Since Qatar was confirmed as the nation to host the 2022 World Cup, there have been recurring criticisms, stemming from the fact that the country has some human rights issues.
It was reported that just before Platini opted to vote for Qatar, he had a closed-door meeting with Mohamed Bin Hammam, who has also been branded as being corrupt.
