Reno Omokri disagrees with Fayose for attacking Obasanjo

2 Min Read

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has tackled immediate-past Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, who condemned ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo for not honouring presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola.

Fayose said it was to Obasanjo’s “shame” that he failed to honour Abiola while in office between 1999 and 2007.

He described Abiola as Obasanjo’s “kinsman” whose struggle ultimately led to his emergence as president in 1999.

The ex-governor said this while reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari’s Democracy Day speech in which he announced the renaming of the Abuja National Stadium as Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

“It remains a sore-point of his political history that because of ego, Obasanjo, who’s the greatest beneficiary of the June 12, 1993 struggle failed to honour his kinsman, MKO Abiola. So, I commend President Buhari,” Fayose said on Thursday.

Reacting, Omokri, disagreed with the ex-Ekiti governor, accusing Buhari of “frolicking” with Abiola’s jailer, Gen. Sani Abacha, while the billionaire was in jail.

Omokri, who was Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, said, “I disagree with Ayo Fayose that Buhari honouring Abiola is to Obasanjo’s shame.

“Who built the stadium Buhari named after MKO? Is it not Obasanjo? Abiola’s slogan was ‘farewell to poverty’. Between Obasanjo and Buhari, who bid farewell to poverty? Of course ObJ.”

He added, “That satan celebrates Passover/Easter, doesn’t mean he‘s happy with Jesus’ resurrection. That Buhari celebrates June 12 does not mean he is happy that Abiola won. Remember, he was frolicking with Abacha the usurper when he was keeping Abiola in jail.”
