Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani, has reiterated his condemnation of the withdrawal of Daar Communications broadcasting licence by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

NBC Director-General, Dr Modibbo Kawu on Thursday announced the suspension of the licences of the African Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power FM belonging to Daar Communications.

The regulatory body said that Daar Communications failed to pay its licence renewal fees and aired divisive programmes.

In his initial reaction to the NBC’s announcement, Sani said, “The suspension of AIT is an utterly condemnable act.

“The suspension is politically motivated. Its an act of ingratitude & treachery to strangulate the very media outlet that has played a pivotal role in the struggle for the restoration and defense of democracy.”

In a follow-up comment on Friday, Sani said that a sitting governor cursed him and some other senators in May 2018 and broadcasting stations in the country covered it without being sanctioned by the NBC.

He queried the haste to withdraw Daar Communications’ licence.

According to him, “In May 2018, when a serving Governor openly Cursed us and called on the people to unleash violence and kill us,Whenever we come back home to visit our families,it was aired to the public and no Broadcast station was sanctioned.”
