A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Friday remanded a 27-year-old Abel Kazi, in prison on charges of rape and threat to life.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, who did not take the plea of Kazi, ordered that he be remanded in prison and the case file duplicated and sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Adelaja thereafter adjourned the case until June 19 for hearing.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 14, at No. 10, Tapa St., Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos.
Osayande alleged that Kazi threatened the 17-year-old girl (name withheld) and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences contravene sections 56 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
