Sit-at-home order: DSS issues stern warning to IPOB

2 Min Read

Following the recent order by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Department of State Services has issued a stern warning to the group, iterating that any illegality or breach of rule of law from their camp would birth dire consequences.

IPOB members have been seen installing flags across their strongholds, demanding that residents in the region stay back in their homes on May 30.

And in its reaction, DSS emphasized that its operatives have been charged to ensure there was guaranteed security in all parts of the country, hence, denying well-meaning Nigerians of their freedom to go about their normal activities would be met with proper punishments.

While speaking with Punch newsmen over the phone, DSS’ spokesperson, Peter Afunnaya, said, “The service will not condone people taking the law into their hands and obstructing the freedom of others. The constitution is clear on the fundamental human rights of people and no person should deliberately infringe on the rights of anyone outside the laws of the land.

“The service in the line of its mandate will ensure that adequate security is maintained in all parts of the country and people who take the law into the hands or cause the breakdown of law and order should be ready to face the consequences.”
