2 Min Read

Despite public outcry against his division of the ancient emirate, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has presented  Staff of Office to the four newly appointed first class emirs in Kano on Monday.

Aminu Ado Bayero, one of the sons of the late Ado Bayero, who is the newly appointed Emir of Bichi Emirate Council was the first to become an official emir.

Other new emirs who also received their staff of office include Emir of Karaye Emirate Council, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II, Emir of Rano, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila and the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir.

Ganduje congratulated the new emirs, tasking them to always abide by what the Staff of Office symbolically represents.

He explained that the Staff of Office represents dedication and commitment to serve their subjects in the areas of security, health care delivery system, as well as education and environment, among others.

Recall that stakeholders within and outside Kaduna state have berated Ganduje for desecrating the long-respected Kano emirate with the split.

Days after the bill for the new Emirates was signed into law, there was also a court order restraining the governor from further actions on the move.

But Ganduje has gone ahead to defied all these, claiming that the move is in the best interest of Kano residents.

With the division, Emir Mohammed Sanusi II of Kano is left with control of 10 local government areas, out of the initial 44.
