A 25-year-old carpenter, Zaradeen Usman, on Friday  begged a Karmo Grade I Area Court not to send him to jail because he will not steal again.

Usman, whose address was given, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal trespass and theft.

“ I will not steal again. I was thoroughly beaten. I suffered in their hands. I will never steal again. My lord please temper justice with mercy.

“I was injured in my hand.

“I will not do it again.’’ the convict pleaded.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, after listening to plea of Usman for mercy warned and discharged him to enable him go for medical treatment.

He also warned Usman to desist from committing crimes after his medical treatment.

Maiwada held that Usman was a first-time offender and had prayed the court for mercy.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Eunile Yusuf reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on May 1.

Okagha said at about noon, Usman criminally trespassed into the complainant’s tailoring shop at Kado village without her consent.

She explain that the convict stole a ”Tecno Canon phone” valued at N10,000 belonging to a customer.

Ukagha told the court the  stolen phone was recovered from Usman and he confessed to the crime during police investigation

She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
