Banditry: Nigeria using 20th century solutions for 21st century crime – Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani, says the nation is not combating the menace of banditry the right way.

Sani made this known in a tweet on Tuesday morning.

Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina and other states in the North have experienced recent spike in activities of bandits and kidnappers.

A British woman and member of Mercy Corps of Nigeria, Miss Faye Mooney was among two people killed and three kidnapped on April 19 at a recreational resort in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna by suspected kidnappers.

According to Sani, instead of deploying drones, interceptors and other modern equipment used to combat crime in the 21st century, Nigerian security agencies still relied on “archaic and rudimentary security strategy” that have failed repeatedly.

Sani said only a change in approach would help the country overcome the menace of banditry and other forms of modern-day criminality.

The senator said, “The nation is still using archaic & rudimentary security strategy to confront Banditry; We can’t use 20th century solutions to a 21st century crime.

“The use of Drones, interceptors & Satellites navigational equipments is indispensable & the time is now.”
