The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani, has called on South African companies operating in Nigeria to consider paying compensation to families of Nigerians killed in xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
Sani disclosed this in a tweet on Thursday in reaction to reported killing of Nigerians in unprovoked attacks in the rainbow nation.
In the latest reports of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country, two men, Bonny Iwuoha and Izochukwu Nwokocha, were killed in Johannesburg and Cape Town on April 5 and 6, 2019 respectively.
Sani said South African companies in Nigeria should take up the “moral challenge” of “modestly” compensating victim’s families to help in calming nerves resulting from attacks on innocent persons.
He said, “South African companies based in Nigeria should take up the moral challenge of modestly compensating the families of Nigerians killed or injured in South Africa.
“This would help in calming nerves resulting from ceaseless xenophobic attacks against our innocent citizens.”
