113 Students Bag First Class as Sokoto Varsity Announces Joint Convocation Ceremonies

Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto says 113 students of the institution would be conferred with first degrees during her 35th, 36th and 37th combined convocation ceremonies scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th to April 13th, 2019.

The joint ceremonies would feature graduands of the 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic years.

The Vice chancellor of the varsity, Prof Abdullah Abdu Zuru, who made this known at the pre-convocation news briefing held at the varsity senate house, said that a total of 12,282 graduands would be receiving degrees and diplomas at this year convocations ceremonies.

“We are presenting a total of twelve thousand, two hundred and eighty two (10,282) graduands who will receive degrees and diplomas, having been found worthy in both learning and character”

He added that of the total graduands 135 would receive Ph.D; 770 Master degrees; 96 Postgraduate diploma, while 10,994 would bag First degrees and 287 would receive diploma.

Breaking down the classes of degrees, Prof Zuru asserted that a total of 2,375 graduands would be graduating in the second class upper division; 6,603 would bag second class lower division; 1,556 Third class and 347 students would be honoured with degrees or diplomas that were not classified at combined ceremonies.

Speaking further, he, however, noted that students who proven excellent performance in their respective discipline and other prominent Nigerians that have impacted in the growth of education in Nigeria would also be honoured.

“In addition, 109 students will receive various prizes for their excellent performance in their respective discipline and other three Nigerians will be conferred with honourary doctorate degrees for their immense contribution towards the development of Education in Nigeria”

He continued: “they are HRH, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar, Emir of Gwandu with Doctor of Laws (LLD); Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON with Doctor of Science (D.Sc) and sheik Muhammad Mujtaba Isah with Doctor of Letters”

Others are HRH, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, Emir of Yauri with Vice Chancellor Emeritus; And Amb. Prof. Tijjani Mohammed Bande, permanent representative to the United Nations with professor emeritus for their commitment and dedication of their entire working career to the service of the varsity.

Commending the activities of all dignitaries and stakeholders, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to all stakeholders such as the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), UDUTH Branch for the maiden conduct of pre-convocation free medical services for the University community.

“Finally, I would like to express our gratitude to the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), UDUTH Branch for introducing a pre-convocation free medical outreach in all aspects of medical for the University community and its environment.”

He, therefore, commended the efforts of all stakeholders for their steadfastness and commitment in making the varsity an academic centre of great reputes and excellence.
