Company sacks Turkish man who stabbed Nigerian accountant; police vows to arrest and prosecute suspect

Slavabogu Nigeria Limited said it had dismissed a Turk, Yalcin Oktem, who stabbed an accountant with the company, Oluwaseun Ojo, for being disrespectful.

This was contained in a statement by the company, which noted that, immediately the incident happened, the management carried out a detailed investigation to ascertain what actually transpired between the two workers.

The statement explained that he management promptly addressed the issue upon obtaining the preliminary findings of the investigation panel last week.

The company said, “The affected worker responsible for the misconduct, from our findings, was immediately dismissed, while the affected employee, who needed medical attention, was given adequate treatment and other necessary assistance for his wellbeing.

“The company takes the health and safety of its staff with the seriousness it deserves and will not condone any unlawful action in any shape or form irrespective of nationality or ethnic group of the members of staff.

“As a responsible corporate entity striving and providing jobs for very committed and hardworking skilled and unskilled employees, we will not allow this incident to tarnish our hard work and hard-earned reputation.

We have been employing/training competent and responsible workers from Nigeria and different nationalities/ethnic groups, who have worked harmoniously for nearly 10 years.”

Speaking on the recent development on the case, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige, said despite the purported dismissal of the suspect by the company, the command would continue with its investigation into the incident.

She said the command was on the lookout for the suspect notwithstanding the action taken by his employer.
