“They all voted for Atiku” – APC reveals why no South East Senator can be Senate President

3 Min Read

Yekini Nabena, one of the National Secretaries of the All Progressive Congress has iterated that Southerners are responsible for not being eligible to become either the Senate President or the Deputy Senate President in the next National Assembly.

He made the statement in a bid to address the insistence of APC’s Orji Uzor Kalu that he must be selected as the Deputy President, else he would contest for the seat of the Senate President on his own.

The APC already made plans to select a Senate President from the North East, his Deputy from the North West, and the Chief Whip from the South-East.

However, the former governor, Kalu, lamented that the apportionment ridiculed the importance of Senators from the South East region.

“They all voted for Atiku” – APC reveals why no South East Senator can be Senate President

As a result, the National Secretary quickly addressed the issue when talking to newsmen from Daily Independent. He stated that Kalu should rather condemn other southerners as more than 90 percent voted for Atiku, instead of blaming the party.

He said, “That shouldn’t be a problem. He can contest for the position of Senate President. But the issue is, can he win? Nobody is stopping him from contesting. Igbo people always play themselves out. So, Kalu cannot blame APC.

“He should blame his own people from the South-East. He should blame them because they don’t know how to play politics. They play politics like a one-way thing. They all voted for Atiku in the presidential election. So, now that Atiku lost, who will help people like Orji Kalu? 99.9 percent of them followed Atiku.

“So, what is Kalu crying for? He should go back to his people and educate them on how politics is played especially at the national level. They should play 50-50. If this one didn’t work, the other can work.

“So, Orji Uzor Kalu must go back to his people and educate them because he himself is not worthy to be Senate President or Deputy Senate President. So, if he wants to contest, he can do so. Nobody is stopping him. But I know that he cannot win.”
