Seyi Makinde

The incoming governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has reiterated that the comments he made recently about how the current administration had started awarding fresh contracts after the elections are only because he was genuinely concerned about the finances of the state.

He made the comment after the current Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, accused him of constantly attacking him unjustly.

Seyi denied that his cautioning was to attack the governor, adding that he respects him as his senior.

His explanation was contained in a statement released by Mr. Dotun Oyelade.

However, the governor maintained his stance on reversing any fresh contracts awarded in the state.

He said, “But governance being a serious business, Makinde cannot look on while direct instructions are given to local government councils to spend all money in their care including Stabilisation Accounts which are traditionally reserved for emergencies and natural disasters even when there are no cases of emergency anywhere in the state.”

He further clarified that he had come across some documents revealing the list of roads that the current government had begun to or about to release funds for.

He stressed that such projects will not even begin before May 29, hence, he would not hesitate to reverse them and bring the culprits to book.
