The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a North Korean doctor, Dr Jeng Sunail, from the state.

The missing doctor was attached to the  Tsafe General Hospital, the police said.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Shehu Mohammed, Jeng’s abduction was reported at the Tsafe Police Station by another Korean doctor attached to the hospital, Dr Li Dong, on Tuesday at 9.45am.

He said that the DPO Tsafe  “led a team of detectives to the quarters where the main entrance gates of the house and his room were opened with no sign of break-up or struggle”.

According to the police spokesman, the command would leave no stone unturned to unravel the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the expatriate.

Mohammed added, “The Commissioner of police, Mr Celestine Okoye has as a matter of urgency directed the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and Anti-Kidnapping Squad to commence a discreet Investigation as well as to conduct search and rescue Operation.”

New Nigerian quoted an unnamed source as saying that the Korean doctor was in the hospital’s staff quarters when armed bandits stormed the area around 9pm on Monday and abducted him.

He was said to have been attached to the hospital as part of a contractual agreement between the North Korean Government and the Zamfara State Government.
