S.Korea Police: 1,600 motel guests were filmed with hidden cameras

2 Min Read

Police in South Korea say they are investigating four men accused of filming 1,600 motel guests with hidden cameras.

In a statement published online, police announced the arrest of two of the suspects.

The four suspects in the case are accused of live-streaming footage from the motels for monetary gain.

The cameras were installed in television set-top boxes, electric sockets or hair dryer mounts.

The men reportedly received around 6,200 dollars from paying members of the live-stream website.

The recordings were made between November 2018 and early March this year in 30 motels across 10 cities in the central and south-east of the country.

According to The Korea Herald newspaper, the men sold over 800 video clips to 97 members on the website, which had a total of over 4,000 members.

If convicted, the two main suspects could face up to seven years in prison each, according to police.

The use of illegal hidden cameras has become a serious issue in South Korea.

In 2018, thousands of women took to the streets demanding the government crack down on such activities.

A famous K-pop singer and TV star Jung Joon Young made headlines this week for secretly filming women while having sex with them and sharing the recordings in private online chat rooms. (dpa/NAN)
