Man cuts his neighbour’s hand for failing to buy him cigarette

A 23-year-old man, Joachim Kikogble, who allegedly cut his  neighbour with razor for failing to buy him cigarette, is now facing a charge of assault in Lagos.

The police charged Kikogble before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, but he pleaded not guilty the one-count charge.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, submitted thatKikogble, who resides in Yaba, cut the hand of Mr Solomon Mifokpo because the latter refused to buy a packet of cigarette  for him.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 7:00p.m. on March 11, on Oko-Agbon Street, Yaba.

Olaluwoye told the court that the defendant  stopped Mifokpo on the street and asked him to buy the packet of cigarette.

“My lord, when the complainant refused to buy the cigarette, it resulted in an argument and then a fight.

“The defendant brought out a razor from his pocket and cut the complainant on his right hand.

“The complainant had to be rushed to a pharmacy to get treated,” she said.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant had had a misunderstanding with the complainant.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN) reports that assault  contravenes Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised), and is punishable with three years’ jail term.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluwatoyin Oghere, admitted the defendant to  bail in the sum of  N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that one of the sureties must be the defendant’s blood relation, adding that the two sureties must be gainfully employed and possess  evidence of three years’ tax payment to the state government.

The case was adjourned until June 26, for mention. (NAN)
