Security agents in New York are currently investigating a cocaine smuggling case after some officers confiscated a shipping container and found 3,200 pounds of cocaine in it. The shipment, which had reached the Port of New York and New Jersey on February 28 has been said to be the largest cocaine impoundment in New York.

The banned substance was hidden in crates labeled as dried fruits from Colombia, with its estimate pegged at $77 million.

The ship carrying the cargo sailed to Newark through Buena Ventura in Colombia and was headed towards Antwerp in Belgium.

While reporting the incidence to journalists, the director of Customs and Border Protection for New York Field Operations, Troy Miller, stated, “ This is a significant seizure, in fact, it is the largest cocaine seizure at the Port of New York/Newark since May 1994.”

According to ABC News, the agents had embarked on routine checks and inspection of many containers when they noticed that some ceiling pins on one of the containers were not properly placed. The agents subsequently approached the container, opened it up and found packs of cocaine concealed inside fruit crates.
