The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-concluded presidential poll, Atiku Abubakar, has dissociated himself from a GoFundMe account set up on Tuesday to finance his case at the tribunal.
Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and Strategy, Phrank Shaibu, disclosed this in his reaction to media reports of the account, and the resulting social media debate.

“We do not know anything about it. We are not in any way connected to it but we consider it as a purely private initiative of the promoters,” Shaibu said.
While the account was discovered to have been deleted, over $800 (N288,000) out of the target $100,000 (N36m) was already donated within 24 hours.
The move to raise funds has been questioned by Nigerians who berate the former vice president and the PDP for requesting donations despite their wealth.
