Atiku reveals real reason EFCC arrested his son-in-law, lawyer

2 Min Read

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested and detained his son-in-law Babalele Abdullahi and lawyer for supporting him.

Atiku made the claims in a series of tweets on Monday morning, accusing the Federal Government of using the EFCC to persecute his family and supporters.

The Herald can report that Abdullahi is also Director of Finance for Atiku’s group of companies.

He tweeted: “My son-in-law and lawyer have been detained, one for three weeks and the other recently.

“They are paying the price for supporting me. I urge those now persecuting them to remember that a government’s mandate is to pursue peace and justice for all, and not just those who support them.”

Recall that Atiku raised an alarm of alleged desperate moves to make him concede defeat and congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, following the February 23 election, three days ago.

Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe disclosed in a statement that Abdullahi was picked up in Abuja on Saturday by EFCC operatives who stormed his Maitama residence.

The former Vice President said that although the EFCC was empowered by law to carry out investigations, he would not bow to any attempt to blackmail him.

Responding, EFCC acting spokesman, Tony Orilade noted that Abdullahi was being investigated for alleged money laundering.

“We are investigating a case of money laundering against Abdullahi. We shall speak at the appropriate time,” he said.
