The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has presented a six-point demand to the Federal Government for peace to reign.

The demands were presented through the National Peace Committee (NPC) led by former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), which visited Atiku and his running mate, Peter Obi, on Thursday evening.

Members of the peace team included Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Bishop Kukah and Rev. Fr Atta Barkindo.

Atiku listed the demands to include: unfreezing of opposition politicians’ bank accounts and demilitarisarion of subsequent elections.

Others were: that accreditation of voters should take place before voting in subsequent elections., that there should be no deployment of the military in subsequent elections, that INEC should open its back end server to all participating parties., and that there should be a release of all politicians detained illegally by FG.

Atiku was quoted to have informed the peace committee that tension was building up in the land, noting that the February 23 presidential election was the worst since the nation’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

The peace team, which promised to present Atiku’s demands to the Federal Government, pleaded with him to avoid any actions that could jeopardise the nation’s peaceful co-existence.
