Voters in some parts of Enugu State capital have decried the absence and late arrival of electoral officers and materials at various polling units in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondents monitoring the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Enugu on Saturday reports that voters were seen stranded at some of the polling stations visited.

NAN reports that as at 9.45a.m, no official of the Independent National Electoral Commission was on ground at Abakpa Nike, Emene, Transekulu, Okpara Square, and University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC).

NAN reports that as at 10.10a.m materials have yet to arrive at Abakpa Nike and Transekulu all in Enugu East LGA.

It is also a similar situation at UNEC and Okpara Square as voters who came out in their numbers were complaining about the development.

A septuagenarian, Chief Mike Okolo said he came out as early as 7.30am to the polling booth at St Cyprian Anglican Church polling unit but no INEC official or ad hoc staff was on ground.

Okolo expressed disappointment at the attitude of INEC who promised early commencement of the exercise.

Another voter, Mr Alex Gbenimacho urged INEC to extend the time whenever the materials arrived to cover the time wasted.

Meanwhile, Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State cast his vote at Amube Ohom, Orba Ward 2 in Udenu council area of the state.

Ugwuanyi expressed satisfaction at the exercise which he described as peaceful.

Former Gov Chimaroke Nnamani of the state and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate for Enugu East District also voted around 9 a.m at Agbani ward in Nkanu West LGA. (NAN)
