2 Min Read

Ghana’s Immigration body, GIS has embarked on a massive raid of Nigerians without proper documentation, as well as landlords who rent out their houses and properties to them.

GIS reported that these set of Nigerians have been using the properties as safe houses from where they carry out different forms of fraudulent activities.

A statement has since been released by Comptroller-General, Kwame Asuah Takyi.

Ghana Immigration begins massive clampdown on Nigerians without immigration documents

It states,
“The use of such properties by persons who are illegally residing in the country make such owners liable of the offense of harboring an illegal migrant, as stipulated in Section 52(1)(b) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573).
“Section 52(1)(b) states that, a person who knowingly harbors any person whom he knows is to be deported or has reasonable grounds to believe has acted in contravention of this Act commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding GHS1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both.”
Meanwhile, the sudden clampdown is said to have been triggered by the actions of some Nigerians in the country. They were caught attacking five Immigration officers around Kasoa in the central region, in a video that has been making rounds on the Internet.
