Officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Enugu have secured the arrest of three armed robbers who are suspected to have been carrying out their operations on the Highway that links Enugu and Port Harcourt. The Police PRO in the state revealed that the criminals were apprehended on the 15th of February, around 8 pm, after police officers in the Mbanabo Division received some valuable intel.
In a statement released about the arrest, the PPRO, SP Ebere Amaraizu, explained that the robbers operate by placing some sharp objects on the roads so as to deflate road users’ tires. Once that has been achieved, they then go ahead to rob the affected vehicles.
The suspect’s names are Chinweuba Okoye, living at 17 Chikaogbe Street, Maryland Enugu State; Henry Odogwu who lives at 36 Amechi Road, Awkunanaw; and Udo who lives at 28 Odudukoko Street Gariki.
Amaraizu further explained that the robbers were on their way to carry out their usual operation when they were caught and arrested.
He stated, “In their separate reactions, suspects had maintained that it was their friend identified as one Ifeanyi from Agbogugu in Awgu Local Government Area of the state who lured them into the illicit business.
“The sharp chisel-like objects are usually placed on the road along Ogbaku axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway at night.
“They said their role was always to come out from the bush to rob occupants of the vehicle which tires had picked sharp chisel objects placed on the road by the said Ifeanyi.”
The PPRO subsequently mentioned that the robber was already full of remorse, and urged youths to desist from keeping bad companies as it usually leads to things of that nature. He added that police officers are still in pursuit of other members of the gang.
