Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN), a US-based Nigerian group, has appealed to eligible Nigerians at home to go out and vote in the nation’s general elections.
The organisation made the call in a statement issued by its Board Chairman, Mr Olayinka DanSalami, and urged Nigerians to make their voices heard “loudly and clearly’’ through the ballot.
It said, “As the elections of the President, Governors and State and National Assembly are underway in Nigeria starting this weekend, OAN hereby appeals to Nigerians to go out and let their voices be heard loud and clear.
“While exercising this important alienable rights, we are appealing to you to vote wisely.
“Likewise, we encourage you to vote for candidates that will serve the best interest of your fellow Nigerians, uplift the nation and add value to the lives of Nigerians.
“You must resist any form of temptation no matter where they may be coming from.
“Your vote will determine the future of our country, Nigeria and your fellow Nigerians. You must exercise this power wisely.”
The organisation also appealed to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the elections were credible.
“We are also appealing to the election umpire, INEC, that the elections should be free, fair and credible.
“After 20 years, our democracy should be fully entrenched, and tenets of democracy should be fully operational.
“May God bless Nigerians and the country,’’ it said. (NAN)
