Some lecturers from universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, under the aegis of Progressives in Academics have endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress for the presidential election.

Also known as Pro-Acad, the group comprises professors and other members of academics in higher institutions across the Nigeria.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the convener of the group, Prof. Bolarinwa Bolaji, claimed that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, could not be trusted with power again.

He accused Atiku, of selling national assets to his cronies during his days as the vice president between 1999 and 2007.

Bolaji also berated Atiku for planning to privatise the NNPC.

“The people who put us in this mess must not be allowed to come back to power. They obviously have nothing to offer. They had been tested but had been found wanting,” he said.

Bolaji lamented that multinational companies and industries were forced to relocate from Nigeria to neighbouring countries, because the PDP failed to provide good governance and infrastructure.

“The effect of this relocation is unquantifiable. Millions of Nigerians working in those organisations lost their jobs.”

He also blamed the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for harbouring the  $2.1bn arms fund fraud, which worsened the case of insecurity in the country.
