FG hasn’t fulfilled its promise on my daughter’s release – Leah Sharibu’s mother

1 Min Read

Mrs Rebecca Sharibu, the mother of abducted Dapchi schoolgirl Leah Sharibu, has urged the Federal Government to fulfil its promise to rescue her daughter.

She said this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Sunday.

Boko Haram insurgents abducted then 14-year-old Sharibu and over 100 other students from the Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe State in February 2018.

Mrs Sharibu, who spoke through an interpreter, said that the Federal Government promised through President Muhammadu Buhari and a minsterial delegation that visited her in October 2018 that her daughter would be rescued.

However, she lamented that her daughter remained in captivity months after the promise.

She said, “The government should keep the promises made by the President and the ministers who visited us in Dapchi in October. They should rescue my daughter.

“There is a Hausa proverb which says, ‘Whenever you make a promise, the best thing to do is to keep that promise.’

“Leah was 14 when she was abducted, she has clocked 15 in Boko Haram custody.”
